The Associated Press reported that archaeologists in Pompeii have presented the partially reconstructed frescoed ceiling vault of a banquet hall, buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The curved vault features detailed scenes from Greek mythology, according to officials cited by the wire service.

The New York Post added that the restoration effort has brought the fresco closer to its original form, with the Pompeii Archaeological Park releasing a statement about the discovery. The vault was presented late Thursday at the site, and the AP noted that more fragments are expected to be recovered and added to the reconstruction.
