PSA Launches Padua Intermodal Terminal as Northeast Supply Chain Modernises

PSA, the Singapore-based port operator, has partnered with Italian multimodal logistics firm Logtainer and Interporto Padova to establish PSA Padova, a new venture to manage and expand Padua's intermodal terminal. According to Seatrade Maritime News, the agreement positions the terminal as a key node in European supply chains, converting containerised cargo from rail, road and barge into integrated freight flows across the continent.

The move reflects a broader shift in European logistics: as Mediterranean ports struggle with congestion, climate stress and labour disputes, inland intermodal hubs have become strategically valuable. Padua, situated at the intersection of major rail corridors and the Brenta-Bacchiglione waterway system, offers direct access to the Po Valley industrial belt and onward connections to Central Europe via the Alpine passes.
