At least 26 people have been injured after a 4.7-magnitude earthquake rocked a region near Naples in southern Italy, the Guardian reported on Saturday. The quake, which struck at 7.46pm on Friday night, caused power outages and damage to properties, and forced about 300 people to evacuate.

It was the strongest tremor to hit the volcanic region in 40 years, according to the BBC, which published video footage of a rockfall in Pozzuoli captured by residents. At least five people were taken to hospital, the Guardian said.

The earthquake is part of a seismic swarm affecting the area, where the ground is known to shift due to the volcanic nature of the region. The events have put Italy's emergency response systems under scrutiny at a time when the country is also dealing with a heatwave and wildfires elsewhere.
