Clashes over Lyon-Turin rail line cause €1m damage

Violent clashes over construction of the Lyon-Turin high-speed railway caused approximately one million euros in damage over the weekend, according to The Local Italy. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the protests as 'organised, premeditated violence', the outlet reported.

The confrontation in the Susa Valley, the historic centre of opposition to the transalpine rail link, left police and demonstrators injured and resulted in extensive property damage at the construction site. Two German nationals have been detained in connection with the clashes, The Local Italy added in a separate report Wednesday.
