Comau charts independent future beyond automotive after Stellantis split

According to Automotive News, Comau, the automation and robotics company that was once part of Fiat Chrysler and later Stellantis, is charting an independent course after its spin-off. CEO Pietro Gorlier said the company is targeting expansion beyond automotive assembly lines into aerospace, renewable energy, and other industrial sectors.

The move marks a significant shift for a company long tied to the fortunes of the Fiat group and its successor Stellantis. Comau's independence allows it to pursue contracts with competing carmakers and industries that were previously off-limits.

For Turin, the company's home city, Comau's evolution represents both a challenge and an opportunity. The Piedmontese capital has been grappling with the automotive industry's transition to electrification and Stellantis's ongoing restructuring, which has included job cuts and plant reconfigurations.
